North Island Images
New Zealand's North Island landscapes hold so much variety. Deserted, pristine beaches in the Coromandel, lakes surrounded by native NZ forest in Rotorua, snow-capped mountains of Ruapehu and Taranaki, and the rolling hills and farmland of the Waikato. Further south there's my old hometown of Wellington which I still hold great affection for and I'll admit I do miss being able to just pop out to any of Wellington's beautiful bays for a sunrise.
But with our move north to Cambridge a few years ago, I've discovered there was a big upside to being so centrally located. I'm now lucky to live within an hour or two of so many amazing NZ locations that it's always a very difficult choice where to visit next, and the year doesn't hold enough weekends for all the adventures I'd like to have.
Some of my most memorable photographic moments have been at amazing popular locations like Mount Taranaki and Cathedral Cove on weekends away, and yet I find I'm equally happy when I can drive ten minutes down the road to my local Lake Karapiro to catch an amazing sunrise or the Milky Way by night. Quite simply, I'm in love with living here and I can't wait to see what other hidden gems I might explore next!
