Overview
Join me and my special co-host award-winning astrophotographer Laurie Winter for an epic long weekend of landscape and astrophotography adventures in one of NZ's most remote and photogenic locations - The Catlins. The area is home to endless amazing waterfalls, lighthouse and seascapes so there will be an amazing variety of locations to choose from to hone your photography skills while learning many different settings and techniques to improve your results.
What you'll experience
We'll teach you how to use simple techniques to improve your composition, master your camera's settings and use filters to enhance the images you capture. We'll help you perfect more advanced techniques such as focus stacking and exposure bracketing to improve your results when photographing challenging landscape and astro scenes. You'll also learn how to take the potential from your RAW images and turn it into an image that will wow you through the use of both Lightroom and Photoshop. And of course we'll have a ton of fun and adventures along the way too.

Friday 4th June to Monday 7th June 2021 (Queens Birthday)

Friday 2pm

The workshop will commence at 2pm at the accommodation in Dunedin. If you need a pick up from Dunedin Airport, this will be available at approximately 12pm.

We will have an introduction to the weekend before heading out to shoot sunset at a local beach. We will decide on the exact location on the day based on weather conditions in the area. If the skies are clear we'll stay out to shoot astro at one of the beaches before dinner.

Saturday

Sunrise will be at Hoopers Inlet or another iconic Dunedin coastal location taking in the beautiful swirling seascapes and rock formations in the area.

After breakfast, we head south to The Catlins towards Curio Bay with plenty of stops along the way for photography including  McLean Falls, undoubtedly one of NZ's most impressive waterfalls. There are many opportunities to photograph in this location, both the upper and lower waterfall and the forest along the way - you wont believe the birdsong here!

After an afternoon editing session, we'll head out and shoot sunset and astro at Waipapa Point Lighthouse before returning to Curio Bay for the night.

We'll greet the day with sunrise along the wild and windswept Curio Bay headland cliffs, before spending the morning processing our images. Then we'll head north to Kaka Point via Matai Falls and Purakaunui Falls. Sunset will be at the amazing Nugget Point lighthouse before the final astro session of the workshop.

Workshop Co-Host

Laurie is a supremely talented NZ landscape and astrophotographer. She was a top-3 finalist in the Sony Alpha awards astrophotography category in 2019, and won the category in 2020. I have learnt a lot by photographing alongside Laurie on many occasions over the years and so I'm thrilled that she will be co-hosting The Catlins workshop with me in 2021.

Having followed Meghan and her captivating portrayal of New Zealand’s landscape on instagram for over 5 years, I’ve finally had the opportunity to join her 5-week online live photography course. Meghan has a gift to explain the “how to” of landscape photography in a very clear, easy to understand and enjoyable manner. Her depth of knowledge in every aspect will prove a more than worthwhile investment for anyone who enjoys this form of photography,  whether novice or experienced.

Real, honest, down to earth and very talented photographer. Very helpful with all the little things, takes time to explain information and makes sure it is understood. Just completed an online Zoom photography course which was well run and incredibly informative..

Meghan is an amazing tutor. Her effective communication and course outline was exactly what I was looking for. I bought my first camera a few weeks before this course and lucky enough this course covered camera settings and composition which every beginner looks forward to.  From looking after your gear, settings, pro tips, composition and editing, this course was every beginners dream come true. I look forward to the next stage of this course and mind you this was quite affordable and full of knowledge. I have become a better photographer. Thank You and look forward to more content from you.
